WMC and Johnson Financial Group Launch 3rd Annual Contest

MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) and Johnson Financial Group announced on Thursday that the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest will be back for a third straight year. The annual competition aims to highlight the state’s manufacturing industry – which employs nearly 1 in 5 Wisconsinites – and ultimately determine the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin.

“We make some really cool things in Wisconsin,” said Kurt R. Bauer, WMC President & CEO. “This contest is a fun way to showcase manufacturers from every corner of the state who make a wide range of different products.”

The rules are simple: any product manufactured in Wisconsin qualifies for the contest. Nominations will be accepted starting Aug. 20 at www.madeinwis.com.

Last year, roughly 150 products were nominated, and nearly 200,000 votes were cast. The winner claiming last year’s trophy went to Oshkosh Corporation and their Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. A myriad of products were nominated across the Badger State ranging from cheese, boats, food carts, iron castings, beer, motors, snow blowers and much, much more.

“The Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin is an exciting contest that brings well-deserved recognition to the products we make right here,” added Jim Popp, Johnson Financial Group CEO. “Johnson Financial Group is proud to partner with the WMC to showcase such a critical industry in our state’s economy.”

The contest will house the same rules, as last year beginning with a popular vote to determine the Top 16 products. From there, the Top 16 will be placed into a bracket-style tournament called, Manufacturing Madness. Products will compete against one another in head-to-head match-ups and the products who receive the highest votes in each match-up will advance to the next round.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sept. 10 to Sept. 16 – Popular Vote to Determine the Field of 16
Sept. 17 – Announce the Top 16
