VIDEO: Breaking Down the Governor Race | Ep. 4 Wisconsin Competitiveness Report

MADISON — Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce released the fourth episode of its limited video series based on WMC Foundation’s Wisconsin Competitiveness Report — highlighting the challenges facing Wisconsin’s economy and what it will take to move forward. In the episode, WMC’s President/CEO Kurt R. Bauer and Executive Vice President of Government Relations Scott Manley break down the August primary election results and preview the key issues for the November election.

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s primary victory over State Representative Francesca Hong caught many political observers by surprise. In this episode, Bauer and Manley discuss what Crowley’s win means for Wisconsin’s political landscape.

“On August 11th, we witnessed, perhaps, the biggest upset in Wisconsin’s electoral history. I’ve been doing this for more than thirty years, and I can’t recall another big upset like this.” — Kurt R. Bauer

Bauer and Manley examine the policy priorities that voters, employers, and communities can expect from Crowley’s campaign moving forward. They also discuss Congressman Tom Tiffany’s agenda and take a closer look at the races, issues, and political dynamics that could shape the future direction of the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate.

“David Crowley said himself that there isn’t a significant policy difference between himself and Francesca Hong. Crowley agrees with Francesca Hong that we should repeal right-to-work. Like Hong, he’s running on repealing Act 10 — that’s a two billion dollar tax hit every single year. While a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, Crowley sponsored a bill to repeal the Manufacturing and Agricultural Tax Credit, which would be an overnight hit of $400 million per year on manufacturers.” — Scott Manley
