WMC Promotes Evan Umpir to General Counsel

MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber and manufacturers’ association – announced on Tuesday the promotion of Evan Umpir. In addition to his role as Director of Tax, Transportation & Legal Affairs, Umpir will also serve as the organization’s General Counsel.

“Evan has been a terrific part of the government relations team since joining WMC in 2021,” said WMC Executive Vice President of Government Relations Scott Manley. “We are excited for him to serve our members and staff in this new capacity while continuing to fight for a competitive business climate here in Wisconsin.”

Prior to joining WMC, Umpir worked in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on transportation security issues and policy. Additionally, he spent time as a staffer in the Wisconsin State Legislature and Congress.

“As a proud Wisconsin native, I am humbled to represent our members everyday as we work to reduce the state’s tax burden and improve our regulatory environment,” added Umpir. “As General Counsel, I look forward to utilizing my legal expertise to further the mission of WMC.”

He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Marquette University.
