WMC Applauds Budget Actions from Joint Finance Committee

MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber and manufacturers’ association – commended members of the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) for voting to remove policies from Gov. Tony Evers’ proposed state budget that would be harmful to Wisconsin’s business climate and detrimental to the state’s economic growth.

On Thursday, JFC voted to remove over $3 billion in tax hikes and irresponsible spending. The Committee also voted to remove the governor’s plan to repeal critical reforms from the last decade that include Right to Work and Act 10 – both of which have made Wisconsin more competitive economically.

Following the vote, WMC Executive Vice President of Government Relations Scott Manley released the below statement:

“Gov. Evers’ proposed budget was full of reckless spending, massive tax hikes and public policies that would make Wisconsin less competitive. WMC and the business community applaud members of JFC who voted to remove these items, and we look forward to working with the legislature on passing a state budget that will help move Wisconsin forward.

“As our economy continues to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic, WMC encourages lawmakers to pass a budget that puts a focus on attracting and retaining a talented workforce, reduces the tax burden for businesses and individuals, and makes investments that will prepare young Wisconsinites for careers available in our state.”
