Historic Regulatory Reform Signed Into Law

Wisconsin Continues To Lead The Nation In Government Reform
WAUSAU – Today, Gov. Scott Walker signed Senate Bill 15, also known as the REINS act, into law. This legislation, authored by Rep. Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee) and Sen. Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg), is a groundbreaking regulatory reform.
The REINS (Regulatory Executives in Need of Scrutiny) Act ensures the public has a say in the rulemaking process. This bill adds the ability to have an additional public hearing at the front end of the rulemaking process, increases legislative oversight power and requires legislative approval for any rule promulgated by a state agency that will have an economic impact of $10 million or more over a two year period.
Following the bill signing, WMC President/CEO Kurt R. Bauer released the following statement:
“Wisconsin has once again shown the nation that we are the leader in government reform and accountability. This legislation will increase public involvement in rulemaking, give legislators greater oversight tools and keep government accountable. We thank Rep. Neylon, Sen. LeMahieu and Gov. Walker for all they have done to make this reform a reality.”
