Statement by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) President/CEO Kurt R. Bauer on the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new regulations on coal fired power plants
“Affordable and reliable energy is the lifeblood of any economy. As a state that currently generates nearly 65 percent of its electricity from coal the EPA’s misguided New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) represent a clear threat to Wisconsin’s economic future. The overreaching EPA regulations will result in higher energy costs for all Wisconsin businesses and households.
Manufacturers will be hit the hardest because they use more energy. As a result of higher energy costs, Wisconsin factories will be less competitive and family supporting middle class manufacturing jobs – the foundation of our state’s economy – will be in jeopardy.”
