WMC Seeks Changes to Wetland Legislation

WMC Director of Environmental & Energy Policy Craig Summerfield testified before the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Environment, requesting changes to legislation (SB 254) that would set statutory requirements for the state’s wetland assured delineator program.

In its testimony, WMC requested an amendment to remove a provision that would establish a complaint and investigation process that could undercut already completed wetland delineations. Projects involving wetlands are already incredibly time-consuming, and the proposed provision could trigger new delays and impact permitting decisions. During the hearing, the bill’s author indicated an openness to work with stakeholders to address concerns with the bill.
