On Oct. 9, WMC testified before a joint committee hearing in support of a package of legislation, dubbed “Red Tape Reset,” to reform the rulemaking process in Wisconsin. The four bills include various reforms aimed at limiting the cost of new regulations, encouraging the elimination of obsolete and unnecessary rules, and enhancing the ability of citizens and businesses to challenge unlawful regulations.
WMC’s testimony focused on the costs of regulation to businesses, highlighting how “every dollar a business spends on regulations that are too costly, complex, and cumbersome, is a dollar that can’t be spent to raise wages, hire additional workers, or expand the business. … Ultimately, workers and consumers pay the price for this regulatory overload, in the form of depressed wages and costlier goods and services.”
The hearing was held before the members of the Assembly Committee on Government Operations, Accountability, and Transparency and the Senate Committee on Licensing, Regulatory Reform, State and Federal Affairs. Adam Jordahl, WMC Director of Environmental & Energy Policy, spoke at the hearing.
