WMC submitted comments on an administrative rule that will impact the cost of new construction. The rule, CR 23-007, would adopt updated versions of the commercial building, energy, and other codes. The proposed regulations would increase costs to new construction at a time when costs have already gone up in recent years due to inflation and interest rates making construction more expensive than it has been in more than a decade. Puzzlingly, the Department found that implementing the rule would have a “$0” effect on businesses. A legislative committee is voting today, Friday, on whether the rule will be adopted or rejected.
