MADISON – The state’s chamber of commerce – WMC – praised a Senate committee for passing legislation today that limits access to the site of an iron mine in far northern Wisconsin.
Below is a statement from Eric Bott, Director of Environmental and Energy Policy for Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce on today’s vote in the Senate Mining Committee in favor of SB 278:
“WMC commends Senators Tom Tiffany, Senator Glenn Grothman, and Senator Alberta Darling for standing for worker safety and private property rights. Today’s actions send a message that Wisconsin won’t tolerate ecoterrorism that threatens the safety of Wisconsin workers.”
Senate Bill 278 was introduced by Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst, on Friday. The Senate Workforce Development, Forestry, Mining and Revenue Committee passed the bill on a 3-2 vote today.
