MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) announced its support on Friday for Gov. Scott Walker’s recently announced school safety plan. The governor’s plan would create a $100 million School Safety Grant Program, strengthen school safety plan requirements and encourage cooperation with local law enforcement, among other proposals.
“There should never be a student or faculty member who feels like they are putting their life at risk simply by going to school,” said WMC President & CEO Kurt R. Bauer. “Gov. Walker’s school safety plan is a positive and substantive step forward to protect everyone in Wisconsin’s schools.”
In addition to being the state chamber of commerce and state manufacturers’ association, WMC’s affiliate organization – WMC Foundation – runs the Wisconsin Safety Council, which is Wisconsin’s leading provider of safety training and products.
“We are proud to have a governor that is being proactive about school safety,” added Bauer. “While WMC aims to make Wisconsin the best place for people to live, work and play, we also think it should be the safest.”
Wisconsin Safety Council, in partnership with WMC, has recently expanded its safety offerings to include comprehensive emergency preparedness programming for Wisconsin businesses, which has a large focus on active shooter training.
