WMC Statement on WOTUS Rule Stay

MADISON – Today, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel announced that a federal court has issued a stay on the implementation of the EPA’s far-reaching Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule announced earlier this year. The WOTUS rule would significantly expand the scope of EPA’s regulatory authority by expanding the reach of the federal Clean Water Act.

In response to the stay announcement, WMC Director of Environmental and Energy Policy Lucas Vebber released the following statement:

“EPA’s WOTUS rule is a significant and scary expansion of federal authority that would be detrimental to the continued growth of Wisconsin’s economy. The stay issued today is a win for our state and the millions of Wisconsinites that would be impacted. This fight is far from over, and we look forward to the day we can put an end to this misguided power grab once and for all. A special thanks to Attorney General Brad Schimel and his team for their unrelenting work to protect Wisconsin families and property owners. We will continue to push back against the EPA’s continued attempts to take away state power and expand their authority.”
