Wisconsin Safety Council Celebrates Week 2 of Safety Month

MADISON
– Wisconsin Safety Council – the state’s leading provider of safety training and products – is celebrating Week 2 (June 10-14) of Safety Month, which highlights the hazards of trips, slips and falls. These three incidents are the third leading cause of work-related injuries. In fact, Falls result in over 220,000 injuries and 880 deaths per year.

To increase awareness of these dangers – both at home and in the workplace – the Safety Council produced a short video, featuring Safety Manager Chevon Cook, that reminds Wisconsinites about the steps they can take to stay safe. That video and others can be viewed here.

Additionally, here are some tips on how to avoid slips, trips and falls in the workplace:

  • Avoid distractions and watch where you are going
  • Dress appropriately for your workplace
  • Wear the right footwear for your work
  • Keep your workspace tidy
  • Report any hazards you find

“It is important to be aware of the hazards around us every day,” said Cook. “Whether on the job or in our homes, it is easy to become distracted. These simple steps can be taken each day to ensure all of us are putting safety first.”
