Right to Work Update Seminars

April 7, 2015

MichaelBestWMC, in cooperation with the law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich, will walk you through the events that led up to Wisconsin becoming a Right to Work state, the reasons why it is important for our competitiveness and, most importantly, what it means to employers in the state.

Presenters

Scott Manley, Vice President of Government Relations for WMC will provide the background on the law and why the state’s largest business association believed it was critical to get the bill passed.

Scott Beightol with Michael Best & Friedrich will provide information on the legal ramifications and what it means to employers.

Together, they will cover:

  • What does the Right to Work legislation mean to me as an employer?
  • What does the Right to Work legislation mean to the unions, and what can we anticipate they will do next?
  • What has happened in other states like Indiana or Michigan that recently passed Right to Work laws?
  • If we currently have a labor contract with our union, what happens?
  • How does the law impact payroll dues deduction?
  • What happens when our current labor contract expires?
  • We are a union free employer, does the law impact me?
  • Are there impacts to an employer who participates in a multi-employer pension or health and welfare plan sponsored by a union?
  • Should I communicate the effects of the law to my employees and what are the most common questions?
  • What is the impact on pensions if a contract is terminated?
