WMC’s second annual conference on the State of Wisconsin Business was held November 28, 2012. With standing room only, Governor Scott Walker reported on what it will take for Wisconsin’s business climate to be Number One, and J.P. Donlon, the Editor-in-Chief of Chief Executive Magazine, presented how Wisconsin currently ranks in the business climate rankings.
Since Governor Scott Walker’s election in November 2010, Wisconsin has skyrocketed up the business climate rankings of Chief Executive Magazine.
We went from 41st in the nation to 24th in 2011, a record jump. Then we went from 24th to 20th, breaking into the top tier of states for our business climate.
Why? Because Governor Walker and the Legislature have committed our state to a single-minded dedication to restoring Wisconsin’s place as an economic engine for our nation. Since 2011, Wisconsin has passed a manufacturers income tax credit, cracked down on frivolous lawsuits, restricted new regulations, balanced our budget, and cut taxes. Our state has gone from a deficit to a surplus, and we are on a roll.
But what will it take to be Number One in the nation for our business climate? What will it take to knock off powerhouse states like Texas, Virginia and North Carolina to see Wisconsin at the pinnacle of the business climate?
