WMC Supports Construction of Weston 4 Power Plant

Wisconsin Public Service Corporation has proposed to construct and operate a 500-megawatt electric power plant using advanced clean coal technologies in Marathon County in central Wisconsin. “Weston 4” will use state-of-the-art technology to minimize air emissions. According to Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, between 1,000 and 1,200 jobs will be created during the four years it will take to construct the power plant. In addition, about 40 workers will be needed to operate the plant. The new power plant would be built on the existing 450-acre Weston site, bringing the number of coal-fueled power plants there to four. Weston Unit 1 (60 megawatts) began operating in 1954, Unit 2 (75 megawatts) in 1960, and Unit 3 (360 megawatts) in 1981. In addition, there are two combustion turbine natural gas-fueled peaking units at the Weston site (72 megawatts).

At a Public Service Commission public hearing held on August 10, WMC testified in support of the proposed Weston 4 project (view Collateral Material on the left side).
