Governor Doyle has proposed sweeping global warming legislation (SB 450 & AB 649) that will significantly increase the cost of energy in Wisconsin, and result in thousands of lost jobs. If enacted, the new global warming regulations would increase monthly electric and heating bills in Wisconsin, increase the cost of gasoline, and reduce our state economic output. According to a recent independent study, these policies will have a devastating impact on Wisconsin’s economy when fully implemented: - Wisconsin will lose more than 43,000 jobs, mostly in the manufacturing sector
- Each Wisconsin citizen will be forced to pay $1,012 every year for higher gasoline and electricity prices
- Electricity will cost at least $15 billion more to generate here, causing double-digit price increases
- Homeowners and businesses will pay expensive new taxes on their electric and heating bills
- A “Wisconsin-only” fuel policy will make gasoline more expensive here than in surrounding states
