Business Execs Urge Governor to Oppose New Ozone Regs
Wisconsin Jobs at Stake as EPA Ponders Onerous Regulations

Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and leading executives Wednesday urged Governor Jim Doyle to oppose a tightening of federal ozone standards for Wisconsin that would “undermine the state’s economic well being.”

“Imposing new, unnecessary and unachievable standards doesn’t help the environment or our quality of life,” said James S. Haney, president of WMC. “Wisconsin industry has done its part to cut down on air emissions. Now is not the time to be adding onerous regulations on industry.”

Haney and 27 business executives – mostly manufacturers – are urging the governor to tell the Federal Environmental Protection agency that the agency should not tighten existing ozone standards on Wisconsin. “We hope you will join us in urging the EPA to allow us to continue to improve our local air quality in a manner that will not undermine the state’s economic well being,” they wrote in the letter.
