Opening Session Speaker:

Dr. Barry Asmus

America’s Economic Future

Dr. Asmus identifies the “Six Unstoppable Trends” that are impacting America’s business and its economy. The current recession will temporarily slow these trends but not stop them. The Latin word for credit is credere which means “to believe.” The deleveraging and economic contraction begun in 2008 could last until 2010. But note this: we have had 13 economic recessions in the last 80 years followed by 13 expansions. Currently, 75 million Baby Boomers are in the high investment and most productive stages of their lives. Confidence will be restored. The end of prosperity? Or, the best yet to come? Dr. Asmus’ presents his “Six Unstoppable Trends” and asks you to decide.

Keynote Address:

Dr. Charles Krauthammer

International Affairs: An Overview

With 25 years experience commenting on foreign policy, Charles Krauthammer offers a unique and highly influential perspective. He goes against the grain, not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom (for a decade he was almost alone in calling the Oslo peace agreements a fraud that would inevitably lead to war, and was proved right). Whether writing about 9/11, the Middle East, the democratic revolutions sweeping the world today, or the indispensable role of American power, Dr. Krauthammer’s views have been attracting the attention of presidents and senior policy makers for years. Krauthammer shares the insights borne of his experience as a trusted voice on international affairs.

General Session:

Wisconsin Legislative Leadership

Newly-elected legislative leadership are invited to present their plans to improve Wisconsin’s economic future.

We will also ask them to share their views on the Business Community’s Top 10 Policy Recommendations for Moving Wisconsin Forward.

The bipartisan agenda is being developed by consensus with the help of Business Asociations, Chamber of Commerce partners statewide, and a wide range of other stakeholders such as the University, Tech Colleges, and elected officials. These policy initiatives will move Wisconsin forward by improving our business climate, growing the economy and creating more well-paying jobs.

Governor James Doyle

Governor Doyle will address attendees on the challenges ahead for Wisconsin and the business community in dealing with a projected $5 billion state budget deficit. We look forward to his remarks.
