TV Ads Educate Public on Falk’s Anti-Business Agenda
Falk Supports Nuisance Suits Against Businesses

WMC will launch a series of statewide television ads aimed at exposing the record of Democrat Attorney General candidate Kathleen Falk. The ads are intended to help educate the public about her public positions and how her policy positions will hurt our economy.

Falk has vowed to use the resources of the Attorney General’s Office to sue businesses even if they are in full compliance with federal and state laws and regulations—jeopardizing jobs in Wisconsin.    Her web page states that she will use nuisance suits against employers, just like Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager did in the cases against a farmer and utility companies.

Falk has never prosecuted a violent criminal.

Falk’s campaign website lists the following as her top priorities:

  • Advance global warming agenda
  • Sue businesses she considered public nuisances
  • Challenge the Bush Administration’s regulatory reforms
  • Reinstate the Public Intervenor Office in the Department of Justice
  • Fight for stricter civil and criminal environmental penalties

Kathleen Falk’s focus on nuisance suits and environmental activism will hurt Wisconsin’s business climate and hinder efforts to protect citizens from real criminals. (Briefing Paper)

Republican candidate J.B. Van Hollen has pledged to focus on crime fighting rather than harassing businesses. He has also pledged to clean up the backlog at the crime lab.

Please make a contribution to WMC Issues Mobilization Council, Inc. to keep these ads on the air!

Doyle Campaign Lawyer Rigged Elections Board Ruling
MJS Reports Secret Meetings Planned Green Attack

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that an attorney for Governor Jim Doyle’s campaign secretly emailed Wisconsin State Elections Board members to prosecute U.S. Representative Mark Green’s campaign for transferring congressional campaign funds to his gubernatorial campaign.  The practice had been legal and Green transferred the funds based on precedent, including a similar transfer by former U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett when he ran for governor four years ago

Within hours of the Elections Board ruling, Doyle’s campaign launched a series of attack ads highlighting the board ruling against Green.

The Green campaign says Doyle’s team manipulated the government for a political purpose.

WMC Challenges DNR Registration Permit

Citing permit conditions believed to be illegal and overly burdensome for businesses, WMC challenged the DNR’s recent Registration Operation Permit (ROP) and Registration Construction Permit (RCP) for facilities with low air emissions.  WMC successfully lobbied for adoption of the ROP last year as a permit streamlining tool for smaller facilities.  However, the DNR has strayed significantly from the original concept of the ROP, and ultimately burdened the permit with terms and conditions which defeat the purpose of simplified and streamlined permitting.  Because WMC has invested so much effort in the air permit streamlining agenda, we believe it is necessary to challenge the ROP and RCP to ensure they will offer our members with a meaningful permit reform.

WMC Ads Promote Tax Relief in Senate Districts

Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce Issues Mobilization Council, Inc. launched new ads in Racine and the Eau Claire areas exposing Senate candidates for their positions opposing tax relief.

Both candidate oppose capping taxes, including opposition to the Taxpayer Protection Amendment to lower Wisconsin’s tax burden.

In Racine, WMC IMC will be airing radio and TV ads criticizing state Rep. John Lehman’s voting record on tax issues.

In the Eau Claire area, WMC IMC is airing radio ads revealing Senate candidate Pat Kreitlow’s position on taxes based on his public comments and posts on his internet web page.

Lehman, a Democrat, is a candidate for the Senate seat held by Sen. Cathy Stepp, a Republican who is leaving the Senate. The Racine-area senate seat is expected to be heavily targeted by both parties. Racine County Executive Bill McReynolds is the Republican candidate.

Lehman had an 18 percent WMC Roll Call in the last session and has a 29 percent lifetime WMC Roll call.

Kreitlow is challenging state Senator Dave Zien (R-Eau Claire).  Zien had a 95 percent WMC roll call in the last legislative session and is one of the most pro-business members of the Senate.

WMC IMC is the issue advocacy arm of WMC and delivers the business message to Wisconsin.

Final Push for Action on Offshore Drilling
Contact Your Congressmen and Urge Action

The leadership of the U.S. House and Senate are working to reconcile different approaches on exploration for and production of new energy supplies in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).  While the House has passed legislation (H.R. 4761) to open the entire OCS to exploration, the Senate (S. 3711) has focused on the Gulf of Mexico only.  Though both houses appear to agree that exploring for new domestic energy supplies is important, they are yet to agree on the scope of such exploration.

WMC members are encouraged to contact their congressmen, today, and to urge them to continue to support exploration of the OCS and, importantly, to come to a bicameral agreement for approval by President Bush.  Members may contact their federal legislators, via the American Chemistry Council, and encourage them to support action.
